Everyone goes about their daily lives, work, vacation, or just some much needed relaxation. Very few times do we take the thoughts of “let me take a look at my car insurance and see if I’m properly covered”, at least I don’t think they do. Now, with the internet companies and our fast-paced society people a lot of times assume that they “have insurance” and everything is great. Turns out many times that the coverage you have is not proper or enough for you needs. Let us look at two major components of letting an insurance professional review your current coverage. Many times, we forget to make that call, or their office is closed, or I’ll do it tomorrow, and the coverage never got onto the proper vehicle. Secondly, that the amount of coverage you have reflects the assets you wish to protect. Let’s unpack that last thought a little bit. If you own a home, have a retirement account, own property at the lake, you really need to make sure that the limits of liability reflect someone pursuing those assets in a courtroom. Now, you tell me, “ I’m young, don’t own a house and I just started my retirement account, or “we just got married and had twins and everything we have is going towards providing for them right now.” I say great! Your needs might not be what someone else has for proper coverage. Insurance is viewed more as a commodity these days instead of a service, and that has come about with the one size fits all mentality. So, let’s go back to the first few sentences of this blog. Get a professional to look at your coverage needs, and let that reflect your lifestyle and your current asset protection. Milk might be cheaper this week at one store over another, and in my view milk is milk. But, with insurance it might be cheaper at a one stop shop over the phone insurance number this week, that just doesn’t necessarily mean it is the best choice.
